UPDATE #1: THEO (aka: Love Lump), the kitty

Pound Photo

Pound Photo before Rescue

01 November 2014 – My name is THEO, and I do not know why but I was surrendered to a Quebec high-kill by gas shelter by my owner.  As far as I know, I was a good and loving boy, and I thought I was going to be happy for the rest of my life because my owner had taken away my claws and had me neutered.  This is so confusing to me, I didn’t deserve to go to kitty jail, but the nice people at TEAM Cat Rescue sponsored me so I got to stay safe for awhile longer.

I sat in that kitty prison for a long time, weeks and weeks, but one day a lovely lady fell in love with me and told the people that fed me every day that I could go for a really love car ride, far, far away, and I would have a nice new collar, and a soft bed and a human that would love me and take good care of me.  I was SO happy! Today, I got to go on my Freedom Ride and to visit with a nice man who said he was my Temporary Foster Dad.  Oh boy, I really liked Darren, and I gave him so many cuddles, hugs and even found my purr!  I have such a tiny purr, and Darren wants you to know that if you can’t hear me when I purr, that you should put your fingers under my chin and you can feel it there. I got to see the nice doctor and then I stayed with Darren for a whole week before the big Freedom Ride where I was supposed to go to Toronto.  Wow, that’s really far, and there was a lot of really nice people that kept telling me I was beautiful lucky boy, and somebody is going to be so lucky when they adopt me!

Princess Gertie: A little lady

Gertie3_7Nov2014Good morning friends, I’m so excited to be here! I’ve been such a good girl that my temp-foster Mom cried this morning before I left, and as much as I didn’t really want to leave that nice warm apartment from last night, I know I have so many great things in front of me that I decided it was going to be fun to go for a walk with K9C’s volunteer, Kim.  I get to stay at her house for a day, then I get to go stay with my full time foster family!  I’m so excited, all these humans keep using the word love, and even though I don’t know that word, it makes my tail dance!

So, because you don’t know me yet, I had better introduce myself. My name is Gertie, the lady who from K9 Crusaders, that saved my life chose that name for me and I really like it already. I’m having a little trouble understanding what they are saying to me, I came all the way from Quebec with some really cool people that took me for LOTS of car rides.  I like car rides, and settle right down for a nap when the car is moving.

2014 Christmas Drive

dog-cat-christmas-e12915068675032With the holidays fast approaching, we think of our friends and family when we go shopping.  For those that own pets, we often think to put something under the tree for them too … but we rarely remember the animals that will be cared for, even on holidays, that won’t have a family, a tree or a present to open.

K9 Crusaders would like to focus an animal in shelter assist drive, to help Northumberland shelters bring happy holidays to those animals.  We need your help!

It’s very important that people remember that puppies and kittens are not gifts for humans, in fact, humans are a gift to them.  Adoption is a decision that isn’t cute, it’s a life choice, and we can’t stress enough how many animals suffer because the process wasn’t thought through.  The shelters are busting at the seams, and need our help to make life a little more comfortable for these beautiful and well deserving animals. They need donations of quality dog and cat food, treats, cleaning supplies, bowls, litter, puppy formula, grooming supplies, collars, leashes, towels, blankets and laundry supplies, Check the bottom of this post for drop off location within Northumberland. What to name the dog!

Wendel

This morning, this Beagle used his pleading eyes, and gentle disposition to get himself out of the pound, and into the lovely hands (and cars) of several people.  His fate was up in the air early in the day, but some fantastic people teamed up to worked nothing short of miracles for this sweet boy, and brought him into the safe and very loving hands of K9 Crusaders!

After a long day, with several hours riding in the cars of many, soaking up pats and cuddles, dousing drivers with gentle kisses, and trying really hard to play with the cats that were also gaining save passage, this sweet boy was safely met by his new Foster parent.  This is a paramount accomplishment due to the fact that just one day, 150kms earlier, he would have been put to sleep for no reason at all.

UPDATED: Bernese Rottie: Your dollars, and what they do!

FREEDOM RIDE!! – 26 OCTOBER 2014

Jaxin
Our latest rescue, Jaxin, the shy and fearful Rottie/Bernese X, (who it’s safe to say has some Chow in there too, with that blue tongue) made his way to our loving arms today. He is looking far less shy and fearful now that he is out of the shelter, and we had quite a few volunteer drivers on hand to great him when he arrived!

Adoption: When rescue turns to forever!

ADOPTED SOME VIEW SUBMITTED SUCCESS STORIES!

Nobody ever asks for the applause, but we sure love a good story, and the only thing better is a true life happy ending.  This is why we rescue, and why we do every due diligence to make sure our rescues get adopted to the best possible family.

If you have a happy story to share, please leave us a message.  We’d be delighted to update and add your share.  Here are some voluntarily submitted happy endings that have been shared with us:

The little pug that did!

WE HAVE MORE GREAT NEWS!!

Stella_K9C_Adopted

Stella’s foster Mom tearful reports, “She arrived scared, sad, emaciated, parasite ridden, full of rotting teeth and in dire need of love, compassion, patience, lots of vetting, a quality diet and many skin treatments. The result is a pug as beautiful as any I have ever seen. She is off to her new forever family this weekend, taking a piece of my heart with her….but I will always remain Stella’s fairy pug mother.

5th UPDATE: ALI ~ Safe with K9 fostering

MEET ALI – a 2 year old, Purebred Akbash

Ali_21Oct2014_FreedomRideJust over 12 hours ago, a few of our team was wide awake in the middle of the night and came across one of those posts for a “Free to good home” … yes, there was a picture, and not a whole lot to go on, but something told us to react … NOW!!!  Messages were sent back and forth between a couple of the team members, and in response to the ad itself.  A post was put into the team page, we could do little else except wonder all night, and wait for answers when the daytime came.
